EWAN BLEACH: Ewan Bleach is a clarinetist, saxophonist, pianist and singer specialising in 1920s and 30s jazz and blues. Ewan runs regular London jazz nights at the Cakewalk Cafe AKA The Jago - Dalston. He regularly visits New Orleans for inspiration and has toured in France with the renowned New Orleans street band Tuba Skinny. He Currently works as a Clarinetist with several London jazz bands including Man Overboard, The Basin Street Brawlers, The Dakota Jim band and The Old Hat Jazz Band. Ewan has a large repertoire of rare old songs, from artist such as Billie Holiday, Al Bowlly, Bessie Smith and Jimmie Rodgers, from the rough raggy blues songs of the twenties to the rich luscious ballads of the early 40s.
He is also involved in projects of new music with various ensembles, and has been involved with other genres including afrobeat and traditional Turkish music.
Ewan leads the Cable Street Rag Band in London and is also involved with international projects including Frog and Henry and the New Orleans band Tuba Skinny, which he has spent time with in the states
He is particularly interested in playing for dancing and has run many nights focusing on live music for dancing in London in collaboration with the swing dance scene, most notably the Cakewalk Cafe at The Jago in Dalston and currently the Juju's Jazz Band Ball in Shoreditch.
Ewan's interest lines primarily in old sensibilities of pre-war music that he calls "music for dancing and romancing" and is fond of playing for functional events such as weddings and other private parties and happy to be setting the mood as much as being in the limelight
He is currently working on his first solo studio album, set to be released in the Autumn of 2019.
