The Down for the Count Swing Orchestra represents the pinnacle of our musical ambition. As our largest and most spectacular line-up, it is a magnificent expansion of our popular All-Stars Band, meticulously crafted to recreate the definitive sound of the mid-20th century's greatest recordings. The ensemble features an enlarged, powerhouse horn section, a dynamic and versatile rhythm section, and the jewel in its crown: a luscious, sweeping string section.

Capitol Studios and the Birth of High-Fidelity Swing

Our orchestra takes its primary inspiration from a legendary time and place in music history: Hollywood's Capitol Studios in the 1950s. This was the era when iconic artists like Frank Sinatra, Nat 'King' Cole, and Peggy Lee collaborated with visionary arrangers such as Nelson Riddle and Billy May. Together, they fused the raw energy of big band swing with the sophisticated gloss of a symphony orchestra, creating timeless records that set a new standard for musical excellence.

We are dedicated to recreating this sound with unparalleled authenticity. Our performances are built on faithful transcriptions of these masterpieces, ensuring every soaring trumpet line, rich saxophone harmony, and shimmering string passage is delivered just as you remember it.

• The Trailblazers of Orchestral Jazz: Our shows also explore the rich history of strings in jazz and swing music with stunning recreations from the groundbreaking Charlie Parker With Strings albums and the iconic Tommy Dorsey and Harry James big bands.
