When trumpeter Dave Rance and trombonist Richard Leach met in 1967, their immediate rapport led to them forming a jazz band together - The Two Sheds. Two years later they created a comedy/jazz quartet, The Kitchen Sinkopators, entertaining pubs in the home counties.
By 1970 Dave had joined the Leviathan Jazz Band, later to become Trevor Anthony’s Dixieland All Stars before moving onto Bernie Allen’s Dixieland Band in 1973. Between 1974 & 1977, Dave enjoyed moderate success with a modern show, Eye Level, playing the thriving nightclub circuit of the time and by 1978 he had been recruited by Professor John Percival to play in his Horace H Smith comedy jazz band, running for nine years.
A busy career and young family meant Dave taking a musical sabbatical until 2001 when he formed Rance’s Rockin’ Chair, currently enjoying great success on the jazz club circuit.
For the CD, above, Dave & Rance’s Rockin’ Chair Band reunite with Richard Leach. Richard’s musical career started in classical music, before a grounding in the 60s London jazz scene. From there, Dave & Richard's careers entwined through much of the 1960’s. Along the way Richard gained experience playing alongside many of the world’s jazz greats and he has been a band leader in his own right since 1972. Between 1998 and 2004 Richard toured Europe professionally with Pete Allen’s Jazz Band. Today he leads his own Alex Welsh inspired 7 Stars of Jazz, his Clubhouse 6 among others. Richard was named as Trombonist of the Year in the Jazz Travel Awards of 1993 and Musician of the Year in the Stafford Jazz Society Awards for 2005.
It is evident from this CD that they have a lot of fun playing together and they hope you will enjoy sharing their music Together Again – 50 years on.
